In July 1986, after a very successful reunion of the many people who had connections with Trowse (baptisms, weddings, etc.), the organisation known as ‘The Friends of Trowse Church’ was founded the following January.
The idea is to subscribe to and help ‘The Friends’ in keeping the church (which is now over 700 years old) in good condition. Obviously, a building of that age does need quite a lot of care.
During the period of ‘The Friends’ being formed up to the present time, our members have been very generous and although we have kept the subscription to £2.00 per annum, most have given more than this.
During the last sixteen years we have spent a lot of money on general upkeep, which includes -
A security system and yearly servicing;
A new boiler for the heating system;
Help with the costs of the new kitchen;
Re-decorating the church and the kitchen;
Help with the costs of re-thatching the roof;
Various small repairs to the church and the church hall;
Spraying all woodwork and chairs for woodworm;
New vacuum cleaner;
Repairs to plaster work;
Replacement of some of the wood floors;
Wrought iron gates on the church porch;
New prayer and hymn books;
Sound system with hearing aid loop.
At present we have 120 members and membership is open to anyone who has the care of St. Andrew’s Church at heart.
Anyone wishing to join this very worthwhile organisation please contact the secretary, Gwen Skedge, on 01508 492192, for a membership form, or email Stuart Nottingham at jenstu@fsmail.net.
